International day for street children 2024

Every year, we come together for the International Day for Street Children. This year, our initiative begins with an in-person international conference on March 12 in Geneva, also accessible online.

Review of Congo by the Committee on the Rights of the Child: a favourable outcome of our advocacy work

On 8 February, the Committee on the Rights of the Child published its concluding observations on Congo, the culmination of the review process on the children’s rights situation in which we participated with REIPER, our local partner and the children we support on the ground.

Celebrating 20 years of partnership with REIPER

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the impactful partnership between Apprentis d'Auteuil and REIPER (Réseau d’Intervention Pour les Enfants en Rupture), a leading force in child protection in the Republic of Congo. Joseph Likibi, the coordinator and co-founder of this network, shares the origin story of the partnership, which has significantly enriched the landscape of civil society devoted to child protection in Congo. It has now become an indispensable player in safeguarding the welfare of children.

Social workers immersions and reciprocal learning

Between June and October, we facilitated cross-cultural immersions between social workers from the Kogl Taaba association in Burkina Faso and Solidarité Batoto in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Similarly, exchanges took place between Cameleon in the Philippines and Women’s Resource Center (WRC) in Cambodia. In total, four immersions took place this year.

REIPER advocates at the UN for the respect of children's rights in Congo

This week, our partner in Congo, Mr. Likibi, the National Coordinator of REIPER, spoke at the United Nations during the pre-session that brings together civil society and examining states. He presented the findings of our alternative report and our recommendations in support of children's rights. Mr. Likibi addressed several key topics, such as the child protection system in Congo, violence against children, juvenile justice, the right to health and education, and the rights of indigenous children, those with disabilities, and those living on the streets.

Collective reflection on supporting children in street situations

Annual meeting organized in Congo-Brazzaville: last October, 25 professionals from 11 different countries were brought together in the Republic of Congo. During a week, participants engaged in discussions centred around the theme of the "personalized journey of the child." The objectives of these discussions included grasping the significance of this approach, recognizing the challenges it presents, and exchanging information about the tools and methods employed by social workers in their respective structures.
