Our partners celebrating 12 April: united for children in street situations!

International Day for Street Children is a day of celebration for our local partners. Every 12 April, they organise events to send strong messages to the authorities and raise awareness among the general public, but also to celebrate the day with children in street situations. Our partners offer them activities specially designed for them, including games, meals, medical care as well as discussion and awareness-raising sessions. Our partners are mobilising alongside the children on this special day. Here's a look back at the activities that took place in Brazzaville (Congo), Douala (Cameroon) and Antananarivo (Madagascar).

International Day of Families: working together for children

On Wednesday 15 May, we celebrate the International Day of Families: a good time to recall that families play a vital role in promoting children's rights. Indeed, the family environment is the primary place for a child's development, and it should fulfil a role of protection and education.

The Dora centre: a safe place for young girls in Beirut

Women in Lebanon are particularly vulnerable to gender-based violence. They are very often confronted with physical, verbal or psychological violence. In this context, we are working with our local partner, the Soeurs du Bon Pasteur. The empowerment, protection, prevention and integration (APPI) programme we support is aimed at more than 800 girls aged between 9 and 18, 900 members of their families and 65 professionals at the three centres in Dora, Hammana and Beirut.

From the streets of Madagascar to the Human Rights Council: Ronaldo and Elia speak out

To mark International Day for Street Children (12 April), two children who have lived on the streets of Madagascar came to Geneva to talk about their experiences at the United Nations. The two children spoke at the Human Rights Council's annual Day on the Rights of the Child, which focused on inclusive social protection. Ronaldo and Marie Elia, 13, tell the story of this extraordinary adventure.

Review of Congo by the Committee on the Rights of the Child: a favourable outcome of our advocacy work

On 8 February, the Committee on the Rights of the Child published its concluding observations on Congo, the culmination of the review process on the children’s rights situation in which we participated with REIPER, our local partner and the children we support on the ground.

Celebrating 20 years of partnership with REIPER

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the impactful partnership between Apprentis d'Auteuil and REIPER (Réseau d’Intervention Pour les Enfants en Rupture), a leading force in child protection in the Republic of Congo. Joseph Likibi, the coordinator and co-founder of this network, shares the origin story of the partnership, which has significantly enriched the landscape of civil society devoted to child protection in Congo. It has now become an indispensable player in safeguarding the welfare of children.
