Tinbo : Support for young mothers, families and children through empowerment and professional training
Burkina Faso has faced a fragile security situation since 2015. Insecurity and armed attacks have created problems of population displacement and increasing vulnerability. The country’s economic situation is precarious, with a poverty rate that continues to rise, and the humanitarian situation is alarming, with nearly 2 million displaced people and more than 3.5 million facing food insecurity and exposure to disease.
Women, children and adolescents are particularly vulnerable and suffer multiple violations of their rights. Although Koudougou is the country’s third-largest city, it remains largely rural and is experiencing a rise in the number of children living in street situations. Opportunities for training and financial empowerment are limited for people living in such vulnerable situations.
Association Kogl Taaba (AKT)
Improve the employment prospects of underage mothers in Koudougou and support vulnerable families with their parenting.
Two complementary programmes provide support for vulnerable girls and families: the Women and Girl’s Activity Centre and the House of Families. To improve the employment prospects of vulnerable girls and promote their lasting social and professional integration, the Centre offers vocational training (e.g. in dressmaking), literacy and financial education classes and psychological support.
The House of Families offers daytime services for families and is a space where they can connect and improve their parenting skills and participate in group activities such as sharing quality time with children, cooking or sewing workshops, games, outings and cultural activities. These activities are complemented by individualised support from social workers and work to raise awareness on what it means to be a parent and the situation in which young, vulnerable mothers find themselves.
The project also includes a component aimed at strengthening our partner’s capacities, particularly in monitoring and evaluation of programmes and in developing a fundraising strategy. Participation of team members in international meetings is also planned.
