Launch of a new project in Burkina Faso to support vulnerable families

This year, we are lauching our project with the Kogl Taaba association in Burkina Faso. Established in 1990 in Koudougou, the association takes care of 90 young girls in vulnerable situations each year and provides them sewing training in its professional training center. Since 2021, the FAAI and Kogl Taaba have been working together on a new project: "Via Familiis"!

Koudougou is located in a rural area even though it is the third largest city in the country. With more than 40% of the population living below the poverty line, the phenomenon of street-connected children, accentuated by the global pandemic, is taking on worrying proportions. The development of this phenomenon is caused, among other things, by the lack of financial and educational resources as well as the breakdown of the family unit. Faced with this phenomenon, the "Via Familiis" project aims to promote the ability of families in vulnerable situations to act and thus protect vulnerable children thanks to an innovative system: the "family houses”.

Designed as meeting places, the family houses offer numerous support and training activities. The houses are a safe place for parents to share experiences thus preventing the isolation of vulnerable families, strengthening the parent-child bond and enriching educational practices within the family circle.

The opening of the house in Koudougou will begin in 2021 and will welcome families in highly vulnerable situations, migrant families or single parents. The families will receive support to solve the challenges they face with the help of social services, school support for children and will take part in culinary activities, awareness raising workshops on children's rights and birth registration.

Over the 3 years, the Koudougou family house will support 105 families, i.e. approximately 650 people, including 420 children who will come to follow the activities within the house.
