Conference : children in street situations - rights at risk - adressing violence in a World in Crisis

Bild

For the first time, the 2026 edition of our conference on children in street situations will take place in November, to mark World Children’s Day. A symbolic and committed choice serves as a reminder that all children have rights, including children in street situations, who are too often made invisible and marginalised.

In a context marked by multiple crises and declining funding for child protection and international cooperation, the realities and needs of children in street situations remain insufficiently taken into account in public policies and child protection systems. Against this backdrop, one question becomes critical: how can we protect children in street situations in an increasingly constrained international context ?

On 24 November 2026, in collaboration with the Graduate Institute Geneva, we will bring together youth advocates with lived experience of street situations, alongside field practitioners, representatives of international institutions, civil society and academia.

Alongside the second Global Ministerial Conference on Ending Violence Against Children, which will take place in Manila in November 2026, our event in Geneva aims to contribute to international mobilisation by highlighting the violence faced by children in street situations and identifying concrete avenues for action.

Exposed daily to physical, psychological and sexual violence, exploitation and discrimination, children in street situations are among the most vulnerable. Yet, their access to protection, justice and essential services remains limited.

Yeremi, Denise and Slavi, three youth advocates with lived experience of street situations, will take the floor to share their experiences of violence, discuss the factors that help them build a more stable future, and put forward their recommendations to better protect children in street situations.
