An integration restaurant to counteract school dropout rates in Geneva, Vernier

In partnership with the École Hôtelière de Genève and Gourmet Brothers, the FAAI is developing an integration restaurant in Vernier, in the Blandonnet district, to address the high rates of school dropout in Geneva. This innovative and ambitious project aims at enabling young people in an unsecure situation to access a vocational training leading to a degree. They will integrate a "tailor-made" structure, which combines technical, theoretical and individualised training in order to address the specificities of each young apprentice's career path.  

Every year in Geneva, around 1000 young people drop out of school with no secondary qualification resulting in serious complications, such as unemployment, isolation, or risky behaviours. To address this issue, the FAAI decided to develop this project in order to support the network of professionals assisting those young people in the construction of their professional project. With the support of the Office pour l’Orientation, la Formation Professionnelle et Continue (OFPC) and the Hospice Général, the integration restaurant plans to train up to 14 apprentices per year in cookery or service with the aim of obtaining an Attestation Fédérale de Formation Professionelle - AFP in 2 years or a Certificat Fédéral de Capacité - CFC in 3 years.

This restaurant intends to be creative and environmentally friendly by favouring local and seasonal products. The young apprentices will be supervised by catering and service professionals who will not only convey their know-how, but also share their professional demands with them, so that they can be proud of their achievements.

The opening is scheduled for early September 2019, the back-to-school season.
