Enfants du Parc - a new year ahead!

Wednesday 17 October 2018

After the summer holidays, Les Enfants du Parc activities have resumed in September with the after-school support. With two weekly sessions, more than 40 children between 7 and 15 years of age benefit from a personalized support for their homework. Whether they come after a successful experience in previous years, thanks to word of mouth or on the recommendation of their schools, children come from three elementary schools and neighborhood orientation cycles, but also for some of them, from other parts of Geneva. After-school support is aimed primarily at children from French non-speaking families who cannot get support from their parents.

It is also the start of the year for volunteers and more than 25 of them come every week to give two hours of their time to support children in their homework. Volunteers attend regular training along the year and the first one of this school year is planned in partnership with a speech therapy office.

On October 5th we started the new season of the Benjamins, around a fun afternoon of sports, arts and games. The theme was "visiting a farm" and we had, for the occasion, rabbits, chickens and sheep in our building! More than 50 children and 15 volunteers participated. The Benjamins’ activity takes place every first Saturday of the month.

For this year, 2018-2019, new challenges are to be met: Enfants du Parc want to increase their presence in the park and on the street in order to reach new families who do not yet benefit from access to social structures, but also to establish a branch in the Junction district to benefit other children and engage more parents of the most fragile families in Geneva.
